The Practice

Fortarra exists for businesses that need to move confidently across borders — and for those that have learnt, sometimes the hard way, that international expansion is rarely as straightforward as it first appears.

We work with UK and European construction, infrastructure and trades businesses establishing operations in Australia and New Zealand, and with Australasian firms accessing UK and European expertise, technology, personnel and supply chains. Our directors have lived and worked as operators in each of these markets. We know what actually matters when a business crosses a border, beyond what the paperwork suggests.

Why Fortarra

An operator's perspective, applied across four markets.

Most firms attempting an international move assemble a fragmented network of separate advisers, agents and brokers in each country. We do it differently.

i.

Operator credentials, not advisory theory.

Fortarra is led by construction operators with hands-on delivery experience across the United Kingdom, France, Australia and New Zealand. We have priced, won, built and handed over projects in each of these markets. That direct experience shapes every introduction, recommendation and decision we make.

ii.

One relationship across four markets.

A single point of contact consolidates the technical, commercial and operational support needed to move between jurisdictions. Established partners on the ground in each market — legal, accounting, immigration and trade — work to our coordination, not yours.

iii.

Time-zone advantage, built in.

Our United Kingdom base allows us to deliver project administration, tender support and technical assistance for Australasian clients during their overnight hours — work returned ready for their next working day. The same advantage operates in reverse for European clients with Australasian operations.

Services

Four service lines. One coordinated practice.

Each Fortarra service line is engaged separately or in combination. Clients commonly begin with one — Establish or Support most often — and add others as the international relationship matures.

Service i.

Fortarra EstablishBusiness setup across borders

For UK and European construction and infrastructure firms entering Australian or New Zealand markets, and for Australasian firms establishing in the United Kingdom or Europe. Fortarra Establish provides the commercial, operational and regulatory orientation needed to set up properly from day one.

Typical Scope

  • Market entry assessment and commercial viability review
  • Company structure and registration coordination with local accountants and legal counsel
  • Local supply chain mapping — subcontractors, plant hire and material sources
  • Regulatory orientation including construction standards, procurement frameworks and health and safety regimes
  • Introductions to trusted local partners — accountants, lawyers, banks and licensed immigration advisers
  • Pre-mobilisation planning and first-project support

Engagement

Fixed-fee setup packages scoped to your requirements, or monthly retainer arrangements for firms wanting embedded support during their first twelve months in market.

Fortarra does not provide immigration or visa advice. Where personnel relocation is required, we work alongside licensed immigration advisers in the destination jurisdiction.
Service ii.

Fortarra TransferEuropean technology & methods into ANZ

Australasian construction markets benefit from access to European and United Kingdom construction technology, methods, plant and materials. Fortarra Transfer brokers those connections — identifying suitable solutions, facilitating supplier introductions, supporting specification, and de-risking pilot deployments.

Typical Scope

  • Technology scouting against defined project or programme requirements
  • Supplier and manufacturer introductions
  • Trade-show representation and factory-visit coordination
  • Specification translation between European, UK and Australasian standards
  • Pilot project facilitation and on-the-ground technical support
  • Ongoing supply chain management for repeat procurement

Areas of Particular Focus

Water and wastewater treatment, trenchless techniques and pipeline rehabilitation, sustainable drainage systems, modular and offsite construction, advanced concrete technologies, and specialist groundworks plant.

Service iii.

Fortarra SupportRemote project administration & technical assistance

A UK-based delivery team providing project administration, document control, tender preparation, contract management and out-of-hours technical support to construction and infrastructure clients in Australia, New Zealand, the United Kingdom and Europe.

Typical Scope

  • Tender preparation, bid coordination and submission management
  • Document control and project records management
  • NEC and other contract administration support, including early warnings and compensation events
  • Programme updates, progress reporting and visual reporting packs
  • Cost reporting, valuation preparation and subcontractor account management
  • Out-of-hours technical helpdesk — CDM, contract, specification and compliance queries

Engagement

Hourly engagement for ad-hoc work, or monthly retainers for clients wanting embedded back-office support. Service-level agreements available for response-time-critical support lines.

Service iv.

Fortarra ResourcePersonnel & equipment across borders

Sourcing and mobilising skilled construction personnel and specialist plant between the United Kingdom, Europe, Australia and New Zealand. Fortarra Resource handles the practical mechanics of cross-border resourcing in close partnership with locally licensed recruitment and immigration advisers.

Typical Scope

  • Skilled personnel identification — project managers, site engineers, planners, quantity surveyors and specialist trades
  • Coordination with licensed immigration advisers for visa and work-permit arrangements
  • Specialist plant and equipment sourcing, with shipping and customs coordination
  • Mobilisation support — accommodation, induction and onboarding
  • Employer-of-record arrangements through accredited partners where required
Visa and immigration matters are handled exclusively by licensed immigration advisers in the destination jurisdiction. Fortarra Resource provides the commercial and logistical coordination around those arrangements.
About Fortarra

Built by operators who have crossed these borders themselves.

Fortarra is led by directors with deep operational experience in construction and civil engineering across the United Kingdom, France, Australia and New Zealand.

Sister company Forte Construction Limited operates as a specialist civils and water-sector contractor in the United Kingdom. That continuous, live exposure to current market conditions, supply-chain realities and regulatory environments is what makes the difference between advisory work that sounds plausible and advisory work that holds up on the job.

Every recommendation we make has been tested against a single question: would we do this on our own job?

Fortarra operates to United Kingdom professional standards including CDM 2015 where applicable, and aligns with the equivalent regulatory frameworks in each market we serve.

Markets We Serve
